Human Resources / Payroll Manager – Construction – Virginia Beach - Pay to $85K

 

Role and Responsibilities:

A successful and growing multi-entity construction and property management company is seeking a HUMAN RESOURCES / PAYROLL MANAGER to join its Virginia Beach corporate team.

The Human Resources/Payroll Manager is a hands-on role that will take charge of all areas of human resources and payroll processing for 100+ employees and contractors.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintain/improve personnel policies and procedures
  • Manage a payroll/HR assistant and oversee payroll processing
  • Annual update the employee handbook and the policies and procedures manual
  • Assist management with setting and reviewing employee goals
  • Manage benefit administration, including open enrollment, benefit invoicing, and new employee enrollment and QLEs
  • Oversees recruitment efforts for all exempt and nonexempt personnel; manages all job advertisements, oversee all interviews, and research job fairs
  • Maintain all employee files and documentation
  • Assists with employee relations counseling and exit interviewing
  • Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed
  • Provide strategic guidance to the management team
  • Manage FMLA requests and absences
  • Submit quarterly and annual payroll taxes for all companies
  • Collaborate with Safety Supervisor on all Worker’s Compensations claims and annual OSHA 300 log submissions
  • Plan company events including picnics, annual 5K, and holiday party

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a broad HR generalist role
  • Proven ability to research and write policies and procedures
  • Expertise in benefits administration, payroll, employee relations, recruiting, and reporting & compliance
  • Construction industry experience highly preferred
  • Systems savvy with experience with an ERP and HRIS and strong Microsoft Office, with CMiC a plus
  • Strong experience with payroll processing including costing payroll to jobs, with certified payroll highly preferred
  • Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Results-oriented with ability to adapt to and manage change
  • Deep attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Understanding of Labor Laws, workplace safety, workers compensation, and related best practices
